50:989:312 Writing Across Media (Fall 2023)

How do our writing tools shape our writing practices? Any writing medium, from clay tablets to word processors to electronic ink, actively shapes how we think about writing and how we engage in the practice of writing. This course will provide students with the ability to consider how writing changes as it moves across media, and it will engage in experimentation with an array of writing environments and tools. Potential exercises and projects will include the making of paper, the use of generative artificial intelligence, basic web design and computer programming, and the creation of experiences for virtual and augmented reality.
