50:989:102 English Composition II (Spring 2026)

Writing 102 builds on the work that students did in Writing 101, continuing their preparation for writing at a university level. In Writing 101, students concentrate on the process of and techniques for creating an argument. In 102, they work on writing in the context of a research project.

The theme of this class is "Attention," and students will develop their own research project that addresses this theme in some way. Much of our time will be spent looking at models of research on attention, learning from those models, and building our own detailed research proposals. Throughout the semester, students will write and revise a lengthy research proposal that lays out a research question, a literature review, a research method, and more. We will also do a lot of in-class writing and will avoid the use of Large Language Models (so-called "AI") as we develop our own writing and research processes.
